Czechoslovakia was at the forefront of the European Avant Garde typography and design movement. As these three covers—top two by Ladislav Sutnar, 1929 and 1932; bottom by Karel Teige, 1925—reveal, the Czechs were modern when much of the world was commercial and decorative.
